Clothes hangers are an integral part of any closet. Before the invent of Huggable Hangers, they came in 3 basic types. They heaviest type of hanger is a wood hanger. Wooden hangers are suitable for hanging heavy items such as winter coats. A wood hanger usually has a metal hook for hanging on a rod and there is often a wooden bar across the bottom for hanging pants. A wire hanger is used mainly by dry cleaners as it is the cheapest form of hanger available. Wire hangers are fine for light items but they often get bent out of shape easily or will alter the shape of your clothes. The worst case scenario with wire hangers is that they can actually discolor with humidity and leave a mark on your clothing. The last type of hanger which is very popular today is the plastic hanger. Plastic hangers are similar to wood in shape. Some have a bar across the bottom for pants, some do not. These types of hangers are both durable and inexpensive though they tend to be almost as large as a wooden hanger which takes up a lot of space in the closet. Small sized hangers for children’s clothes are usually made from plastic.

Some clothes hangers have clips at the bottom to hold skirts. If the hanger is tiered it may be able to accommodate several skirts on one hanger. Tiered hangers for pants do not have clips but rather have cascading bars to hold several pairs of pants on one hanger.

The hanger was invented in 1869 by an American employee of a wire and novelty company. By 1906 hangers were starting to be used by clothiers to display men’s clothing. In 1932 the first cardboard padded hanger that prevented wrinkles was patented and is still in use today.

Hangers are constantly being improved to prevent wrinkles and other damage to clothing. They come in the basic materials already mentioned but are also made with fabric coverings to protect clothes and prevent them from sliding off the hanger. Huggable Hangers are an example of this type of hanger. Hangers have also become a cosmetic feature of a closet. People purchase hanger sets to create a look of uniformity in their closest which makes it look neat and pleasing to the eye.

While wire hangers collected from clothes returned from the dry cleaners don’t make the best long term clothes hanger, they have other uses in the home. Unwrap a twisted metal hanger and you have a tool to dislodge clogged hair in a drain. Children often use wire clothes hangers for assorted arts and crafts projects. Beware that an unraveled wire hanger can be sharp and therefore a danger to small children and adults alike.

One of the rooms in your house that will get disorganized the quickest is the closet. Many people have the bad habit of tossing things on their closet floor and closing the doors for a quick cleanup before company comes over. This practice tends to compound until there is no room left in your closet. Your closet space may in the first place have limited space and you are just making it worse.

When you first move into your home or apartment, the closet seems just the right size. But as you get more stuff, you soon realize that your closet is not gaining more room – there won’t be enough room to hang everything up without using some sort of additional method of organization. One of the most effective methods is to use door hangers – adding additional storage space on your door is also great for easy access.

There are many ways to use an over the door hanger for your benefit. You can hang it on the inside of your closet if you wish, but you can also place the door hanger on the outside, so that it is visible from your room. This is very useful for storing coats and other items that you might use on a regular basis. Coats tend to take up a lot of room in your closet that could be used for shirts or pants – taking them elsewhere can free up a lot of valuable space.

The only problem, though, is that some door hangers don’t work on all doors. If your door is especially ornate, or of a size or thickness that is different from the standard, you may have to order custom door hangers for your home. These may cost just a little bit more than the regular models, but the price difference isn’t that much, and it is definitely worth it for the additional space that you will be able to take advantage of. Even if your doors are standard size, you might still consider customization. You can also get custom colors, patterns, or engravings to go perfectly with whatever style you are looking for.

For maximum increase in storage space, you can use door hanger bags. These work great especially for children’s rooms, as they are perfect for storing shoes, toys, or other trinkets. For children, you can find a nice colorful design that they will enjoy. These aren’t just for kid’s rooms, though; there are many professional designs available that can really compliment the style of your room while giving you several extra storage options for clothing or other items in your room. Door hangers are great for utility rooms and pantries as well. If you look around your home, you’ll undoubtedly find many areas where a door hanger will be useful.
